The Center for Social Value Creation (CSVC) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business hosted its Spring Undergraduate Case Competition on April 18, 2025, in partnership with Gallo, a leading global producer of wine, spirits, and other alcoholic beverages.
Held each semester, the CSVC Undergraduate Case Competition provides students from across the university with opportunities to gain real-world consulting and presentation experience. This spring’s online event featured six teams of four students from multiple University of Maryland schools.
The marketing-focused case centered on Nobilo, a premier wine brand owned by Gallo and the official wine of Major League Pickleball. Student teams were tasked with developing strategies to engage current consumers of Nobilo beyond the pickleball community and to attract new consumers to the brand.
Teams delivered 15-minute presentations with strategic marketing recommendations to a panel of five judges: David Black, Mary Beth Furst, Pranav Kumaraswamy, Tarun Khandelwal, and Ignacio Ponce, a 2020 Smith School graduate.
The winning team included Navya Gunna, Ziqian Chen, Christopher Jenkins, and Khushi Upadhyay.
